This is huge. HUGE! We FINALLY have our building permit for our house and shop. This is a day that at one point we weren’t sure would come! I won’t go into the whole saga but you can read about it here and here!
We’ve already put so much time (and money) into this land it feels so rewarding to be finally be making headway. Right now as we speak, my husband is cutting down trees and next week he will be renting an excavator to extract the stumps and prep the site for our foundation. We are under heavy time constraints… our property is in the water shed which mean we can only “disrupt the land” between June 1st and September 30th. So that means we must have our ground work and foundation done in the next 2 and a half months! Right now we are waiting on our bank to finish our application and give us all the money!!!
I thought I’d take some time to describe what our house will look like and our visions for the inside. Since we are in the woods near a lake I wanted something sort of rustic but not a cabin, modern but not crazy modern. My envision is a “modern mountain house”. I’m not even sure if that’s a thing, but we are gonna make it happen! We are working with a builder named Lexar. So far they have been a dream to work with, very receptive to our ideas and input. We took some plans they had and worked with them to revamp and make them our own. Lexar will be building our house to “super shell” which means they will be doing all the work to drywall including plumbing and electrical but we will be doing all the finishing work. We’ll be responsible for flooring, cabinets, lighting, etc.. We will either do the work ourselves or subcontract it out. My husband is likely the handiest man around so we will be saving a TON of money doing it this way.
Here is a mock-up of what our house will look like:
Our new home will be 1600 square feet with a large covered deck/patio. It will be 3 bedrooms, 2.5 baths and have an open floor plan. The kitchen will open into the great room which will have tall vaulted ceiling and big windows to let in lots of lovely light. The master bedroom/bath will be downstairs along with a utility room and a powder room. Upstairs will be Ella’s bedroom, a guest room, 2nd full bath and a large loft that will work as my office. Oh did I mention there will be closets? I feel like I could jump for joy! The house we currently own is over 115 years old, barely 900 square feet and has zero closets-zero storage! The new house is not large by any means, but it’s going to be the perfect size for our family of three.
My decor vision is sort of industrial-modern farmhouse. If I could paint every room gray I would (but I won’t). #Ilovegray. I rounded up some pictures I’ll be using for inspiration when it comes time.
I just want to say thank you to everyone who has followed along on this journey. This process started nearly 10 months ago and I feel like the fun is just beginning!
