Lash whhaaa? I know a lot of you are asking “what the heck is a lash lift?”… I was right there with you until I did a little research. A lash lift is basically a perm for your eyelashes. Makes sense, we perm our hair, why can’t we perm our eyelashes. They are both hair right? A lash lift will leave your lashes with a long lasting curl that will rival any eyelash curler. The curl will last 6-8 weeks and will lift even the most stubborn short eyelashes! A lash TINT is usually offered at the same time, it will give you the appearance of darker lashes, such that you would get with mascara. My eyelashes are black, so I chose to skip the tint.
Like I said above, I have naturally very dark eyelashes, and they are pretty long but they are very straight and require an eye lash curler to get any sort of lift. (I’ve been using this one for nearly 15 years, not the SAME one, I’ve repurchased of course.) Mascara is my one “don’t leave the house without” item. I love the idea of lash extensions but really don’t want to deal with the upkeep or the “wonkiness” of when they grow out. You know what I’m talking about…. Bald spots, eyelashes pointing in funny directions…So hearing about a service that would leave me with semi-permanatly curled lashes that are my OWN sounded like a dream come true! Sign me up!
Right now there is only one salon in Bellingham offering this service: Spruced Hair and Brow Studio. They are fantastic! The whole process was simple and painless. I did experience a slight burning in my eyes, but it was so insignificant I wasn’t even going to mention it, so don’t let that deter you!
The process is actually very relaxing, you lay on your back with your eyes closed the whole time. The technician will first choose what size rod to use for the perfect curl for your lashes. She placed the rubber rod on my lid and adhered my lashes to keep them in a curled position. Next she applied the perming solution for a few minutes, once that was finished it was wiped off and a neutralizing/conditioning solution was applied. At this point is when the last tint would be performed, but like I said, I skipped that.
So… The verdict... Did I love it? Yes and no. I loved it right away. Like a lot. I had it done right before a long camping trip so to wake up every morning and have long, curled lashes was a dream and it was amazing to go swimming and come out of the water with perfect eyelashes! One of my friends commented that she thought I was wearing a really good mascara when in fact I had ZERO mascara on! I actually found that wearing mascara was too dramatic!
Ok so now to the nitty gritty. I really hate to say anything bad about it because I did enjoy it and I really like the technician. But there were definitely some things I did not love. My right eyelashes were a bit wonky. Meaning instead of a nice round “C” shaped curl, they were more curled straight up like a “J” if that makes any sense. I believe some of the perming solution got onto the tips of my lashes because 3 or 4 lashes were curled WAY TOO MUCH, like curled up then spiraled back down. Some were curled to the point of curled back and touching my eye lid. Hard to explain and it was even harder to get a photo of it! It wasn’t TERRIBLE and probably only noticeable to me but it was annoying. As my lashes grew out, I found I enjoyed the curl more as it relaxed.
SO!! Would I do it again?? Yes, but not on a regular basis. It was awesome for the summer. I have a trip to Maui in November so I will likely do one before we go. When choosing the rod size for my lashes the technician said she would normally choose the largest one because my eyelashes are so long, but if I went with the medium one, it would give me more of a dramatic look. I love drama so of course I chose the medium. Next time I will go with the large one in hopes of a more natural lift.
While we are talking about eyelashes… have you guys tried the new Loreal Lash Paradise mascara?? OMG, its my new go to! I am so so so picky about my mascara and have been using this one for years, it’s not fancy at all but it works like a dream for me. But this one by Loreal is a game changer!
