Hey darling people. I’ve been getting a lot of questions about where we are at in our building process so I thought I’d take some time to share with you! Last time I updated you was in July and we had just received our building permit. As you know we are building in the watershed and can not “disrupt the land” from October 1st- May31. Meaning our foundation HAS TO BE DONE and back filled by September 30th or we have to wait until June 2018 to start everything. We were really set back by the Hirst Decision regarding the water/wells. Chris and I had originally planned to break ground June 1st and our builder wanted to start foundation at the end of June. Our plan was to be in our new home by the 1st of the new year. Hahaha.
Chris went to town cutting down trees, and clearing the land. He thinks he cut at least 30-40 trees, big trees. We were lucky to know someone who wanted the wood and who wanted to cut it and take it away themselves! That was an enormous help. Chris rented a giant excavator and dug out and prepped our building site. Ella was not a fan of this machine.
Chris has also been working on completing our “dispersion trenches”. It’s lovely to live so near a lake but it also means we are in the watershed. We were require to have an engineer come out and draw up plans for our runoff water. We also had to have someone come out, dig a hole, and then sit there to watch how fast the water drained out of it…. Chris then had to dig a 90 foot trench, install two 1800lb catch basins, install pipe, add gravel, and it goes on and on and on. This is all to filter the runoff water that comes off our house.
Finally, finally, on August 19th, after Chris put in countless hours, our builder started our foundation! And I’m sooo happy to report it is finished, backfilled and ready for framing!! And get this…. they will start framing NEXT WEEK! hallelujah! We are so thankful and relieved we were able to have our foundation finished within our time crunch.
So that’s where we are! Oh wait! Our pole building is complete. It is the same size as the one at our house currently and will serve as storage and of course the Croft Climbing wall!
