I never really gave too much thought about what I was putting on my skin until I was pregnant. I was so careful not to use any ingredient that could be harmful to my unborn baby. I began doing some research and using clean beauty products and realized there is a ton of bad stuff in cosmetics. A TON. Such as carcinogens, endocrine and hormone disruptors not to mention lots of allergens and irritants. And did you know that The United States has not passed a major federal law to regulate the safety of ingredients used in personal care products since 1938. 1938 is a long time ago. And over the last couple decades the European Union has banned over 1,300 chemicals in personal care products whereas the US has banned 30. Makes you wonder right?
I’ve continued to be conscious of what I’m putting on my skin. All my lotions are free of yucky stuff and everything I put on my daughter has been deemed safe by the Skin Deep Cosmetics Database by EWG. Check your products here.

I’ll admit a lot of my makeup probably has unsavory chemicals in it. I’ve tried a lot of the natural brands, but some are honestly… not that good. UNTIL NOW. I discovered Clove and Hallow. Folks- it’s good. They graciously sent me a few products to try, I liked them so much I went online and bought a gloss, creme lipstick and their makeup melt.
Conceal + Correct in shade 2
It’s rare to find a buidable yet lightweight concealer that doesn’t flake or crack. It felt silky on my skin and gave me really good coverage that lasted all day. It’s creamy and blends right into the skin. Pro tip- buy one a few shades darker and use it as a cream contour or bronzer!
Lip Creme in Ballerina Slippers
Formulated with a combination of natural and organic jojoba, castor and sunflower oils, this lip stick delivers hydration and surprisingly high pigmented color. Ballerina Slippers is the perfect pinky color for day to day toddler chasing. (Yes I wear lipstick chasing my toddler around.) Pro tip- use on the apples of your cheeks for a creme blush!
Lip Glaze in Bubbly
This gloss is made of natural olive oil, jojoba oil and shea butter. It’s extremely comfortable on the lips, the formula is my perfect kind of gloss. Not too sticky, but sticky enough that it has lasting power. Very hydrating and long lasting as well. My only problem with this gloss is the applicator. It’s one of those twist up brushes, as opposed to most doe foot wands. I never seem to get a good application with the brush. I’m impatient and twist the dial too much then end up with excess product then I get too much on my lips and I become a hot mess. It’s really just user error… I admit it! Haha. BUT, I do enjoy the formula, just not the applicator.
Lip Velvet in Uptown and Sugarbear
I’m a huge HUGE fan of liquid lipstick. I was thrilled to see they had one that is infused with coconut oil, shea butter and Vitamin E. It’s described as a comfortable smudgeproof matte finish. While it is extremely comfortable and matte, I found it wasn’t entirely smudgeproof. But it’s rare to find a liquid lip that is actually smudgeproof and if they are, they are usually VERY drying! So this wasn’t a deal breaker for me. I actually love this product and have been wearing it nearly everyday. I received the shades Sugarbear and Uptown. When I was shooting photos for this post I couldn’t find Sugarbear (darn toddlers) so I don’t have a photo of me wearing it. Side note- does your toddler pick up your stuff and hide it randomly around your house like mine does??!
I’ve been searching for a product like this for a while. I used the Cleaning Balm from Beauty Counter and LOVED it. But once I saw the price tag ($85) I decided I couldn’t love it that much. $85 is a lot of money. This Makeup Melt is similar, not the same of course, but it’s pretty damn close. And it’s only $28! It’s a balm-to-oil cleanser that melts away makeup (even waterproof eyeliner and mascara!) and impurities while nourishing the skin. I have pretty dry skin so I really enjoy using oil based products to cleanse my skin. My favorite thing about this Makeup Melt is that I can apply a thin layer and wear it as an overnight hydrating mask! I’ve used it everyday since I received it and will buy it again for sure.
All in all I’m very impressed with this brand. It feels good to be wearing products that aren’t poisoning me.
