Just a few weeks ago Tarte released the MUCH anticipated Shape Tape Foundation. I was thrilled to say the least! I got the email that announced it was available online and purchased it instantly! This foundation has been so highly requested I didn’t think twice. It wasn’t until the next day that I started reading all the hype. And I will tell you… it wasn’t happy hype.

I was fortunate enough to find my shade easily (Light-Medium Sand), but for those with deeper skin tones, it wasn’t so easy. In fact, there are only TWO somewhat deep shades. Tarte released 15 shades and only two of them would be suitable for women of color. You can imagine the outrage. I’m not sure why Tarte would release a shade range like this. It really isn’t fair to women (or men of course), no one should be excluded because of their skin color. EVER.
I was very surprised to find that Tarte released two versions of the Shape Tape Foundation. A Matte formula and a Hydrating formula. Both are $39. The hydrating formula contains collagen & hyaluronic acid and since my skin is dry I purchased the hydrating foundation. It claims to have buildible full coverage with a luminous finish. It comes with a wand applicator just like the original Shape Tape Concealer.
I like it, but it didn’t knock my socks off. There was so much hype leading up to this product, I love the Tarte Shape Tape Contour Concealer, it’s amazing so I had extremely high expectations for the foundation. I found that I need to dip into the bottle 2-3 times to get even medium coverage. I was hoping for fuller coverage but often when a foundation claims to be luminous it tends to be less coverage so that actually makes sense. I have heard the Matte foundation is more full coverage. My beauty blender blended it nicely. The finish is definitely dewy so I used a little powder to set it. I found it wore nicely throughout the day, and I’m generally happy with it. Will I continue using it? Yes, will I buy it again? Maybe.
So all in all, yes I like it. Yes, I will continue to wear it I’m just not blown away. I will likely pick up the Matte formula to try, sometimes I like to mix two different foundations to get a finish I like. Tarte also released a new brush (here) so I might purchase that as well. Sometimes certain foundations just apply better with a brush versus a beauty blender.
Here are a couple foundation’s I like that do have a good shade range:
BarePro Performance Wear Liquid Foundation– Good coverage and 30+ shades.
Have you tried this new Tarte foundation? What about the concealer? I’d love to hear your thoughts.
